I've recently made the change to a new website platform and finally have an integrated blog. No more linking it to a wordpress! So here we go, a fresh new layout and a simpler way to update the everyday photos I'm taking as I go along, and every now and then drop some musings on life.
To start I'll share some shots from a recent camping trip to Port Renfrew. Sun soaked days and fire side nights were a welcome change to the pace of Vancouver... not that it's a bad pace anyway. I'm a regular hiker and runner in Vancouver's North Shore mountains so I made sure this camping trip was mellow if not lazy. Leave the running for home, it's vacation time! As always having the time to slow down and enjoy the simple pleasures of life like sitting aimlessly in front of a fire did me wonders. I left Port Renfrew feeling not only refreshed but realigned. It's been a hectic and fulfilling year, I've had some wonderful opportunities sent my way and got caught up in a pretty crazy schedule for a while. All of this to say, my brain has been running on high for quite some time now and the camping trip offered me some much needed respite and answers. It's easy to get caught up in the motions of life and find yourself sort of wandering down a path you didn't choose or simply not paying attention to where you're really going.
I relaxed a lot over the weekend, and came to some pretty great conclusions regarding work, life, creativity etc. over things that had been bothering me lately. At the end of the day, it's always so simple and yet so complicated : be authentically you. I find when life gets a bit tougher, or creativity seems to be lacking it's always from forcing something that isn't you. Not your craft, not your belief, not your identity, not your interest. Trying to fit into a role you weren't made for will drive you mad, things always flow easily when they come from your self, your passion. In a world like today's it can be pretty damn hard to make yourself a priority, it's just so easy to lose yourself in the grind.
Nothing like some time in the forest to wake you up though.
